Harley Davidson Inks Deal with Hero Motocorp

In one of the biggest automobile deals in recent months in India, leading motorcycle giant Harley Davidson and leading Indian manufacturer Hero MotoCorp have officially got into a distribution agreement for the Indian market. The iconic US brand is heading out of India but its bikes will still be available in the country thanks to this newly signed deal.

Harley Davidson Inks Deal with Hero Motocorp

Hero MotoCorp is nothing but the world’s largest maker of motorcycles and scooters and we’re sure this deal will help better the sales and distribution of Harleys in the country as well. It was late last month that Harley Davidson announced its discontinuation of sales and manufacturing in India, and talks have been on with Hero since then.

Finally, the decision was made and announced earlier today. As per the arrangement, Hero will sell a range of premium motorcycles under the Harley Davidson brand name while also being responsible for servicing of the bikes and all parts requirements as well. They will also sell Harley accessories, merchandise, riding gear and apparel through Harley Davidson dealers and the existing sales network in India.

Harley Davidson first came to India in 2009 and while they won’t produce their own bikes here anymore, this deal will help both companies in the months to come, especially with the premium bike segment seeing momentum in recent times. India accounts for 5% of Harley’s overall global sales and these numbers could well be on the way up now!
