If you recently opened up Instagram only to realise that your account has been disabled or deleted or suspended, don’t worry because you’re not the only one. Thousands of users of the social media giant flocked to other social media platforms to check whether there’s some kind of glitch or complain about Instagram’s decision to randomly delete their accounts.
The team at Read Scoops also faced a similar issue as a team member’s account was suddenly deleted on the evening of 31st October 2022, without any prior warning or notification. Upon checking Twitter, it seems like we weren’t the only ones as Instagram users from across the world started using the micro-blogging platform Twitter to share their grievances.
Instagram accounts globally just ‘deleted’
Many reasons come to mind as to why this could have happened all of a sudden. One simple assumption is that there’s a global outage and some issues at the Instagram headquarters. Recently, WhatsApp faced a similar shutdown across India and rest of the world in some places. Now, it’s probably Instagram’s servers that have been affected and that’s why #InstagramDown is also trending on Twitter.
We're aware that some of you are having issues accessing your Instagram account. We're looking into it and apologize for the inconvenience. #instagramdown

But Instagram was the first to head over to Twitter themselves and acknowledge the technical issues. “We’re aware that some of you are having issues accessing your Instagram account. We’re looking into it and apologize for the inconvenience. #instagramdown.” is what they posted to their Twitter account, putting to rest some of the many speculations on the internet.

While a lot of users were making fun and jokes about the outage, others were just outraged. Most users spent a lot of time trying to see if they had internet or WiFi connections issues at home, while others believed that they must’ve really violated some community guidelines of Instagram in order to be deleted from the application.

For users who have been using Instagram for 10 years and above, it’s quite a loss if Instagram is not able to recover the deleted accounts. Quite a few celebrities and influencers also had their accounts deleted, which means a lot of hardwork over the years going down the drain. According to us, it’s a major coincidence that this outage happens to Instagram a few days after Elon Musk took control at Twitter.

And of course, no real drama is complete without people thinking that there’s political agenda behind it as well. “Big tech is nervous. Instagram is already siphoning off followers from top conservative accounts. Big tech doesn’t want you to know the truth, it might change the way you vote next week!” says Tomi Lahren on Twitter.

ℹ️ Note: Instagram is currently experiencing international platform issues with some user accounts appearing suspended; the incident is attributed to a technical problem and is not related to country-level internet disruptions or filtering #InstagramDown pic.twitter.com/5BSzIzVumx
