As the world’s most popular instant messaging application, you have to be on your toes at all times to bring about the latest updates and features. We’re talking today about WhatsApp Messenger which has been at the forefront of instant messaging for years now, regardless or whether you talk about iOS or Android or any other operating systems.
Owned by the same parent company that owns other social media platforms like Facebook, Messenger, Instagram and more, you can often see some common features and offerings, which is what has happened here as well. We’re talking about the feature where users can now react to messages sent with a select group of emoticons.
For those who already know, Facebook has been using different reactions to posts for many years now and more recently, the same was introduced on Instagram as well, where users can react to messages sent on DM with a set group of smileys. In fact, Instagram took it one step ahead by allowing you to select ‘+’ and choose from the full list of smileys to react to a particular message.
That feature hasn’t yet arrived on WhatsApp as you’re restricted to reacting to messages with just a fixed set of emojis. As of now, those include a thumbs up emoji, a heart, a laughing smiley, a crying smiley, a shocked/surprised smiley, and one of folded hands. Maybe in the future, this will also be expanded on WhatsApp.

Now react to messages on WhatsApp
The Meta-owned platform introduced this messages reactions features for in-chat messages on both individual as well as group chats. The feature started being noticed across the world from 10th May 2022 and please note that it’s being rolled out in a phased manner so if you haven’t received the update yet, don’t worry. You should be able to use it soon!
WhatsApp has confirmed that the full rollout of this pre-defined emojis reaction feature will take approximately a week to reach everyone, so please be patient if you’re yet to see it. On mobile, all you need to do is hold down on any particular received text and you’ll automatically received the set of emojis with which you can react to that text.
If you want to see if you’ve received the update, first update and install the latest version of WhatsApp on your smartphone. Once done, tap and hold on any particular message to see the pre-defined emojis. On desktop and WhatsApp Web however, you don’t need to hold down. You will see a reaction option button at the side of every text received on WhatsApp. You will see the emojis when you click on that.
