If you follow Women’s cricket around the world, there’s no chance you wouldn’t have heard of Pratika Rawal, the new Indian opening batter alongside Smriti Mandhana. In 5 Women’s ODIs before today’s game against Ireland, she had already notched up 3 fifties and today, she decided to take it up a notch too.
Rawal scored her maiden ODI century in the 3rd ODI against Ireland W, taking place at the Niranjan Shah Stadium in Rajkot. You can often be overlooked when batting alongside a legend like Mandhana, but she’s been matching her shot for shot in this series, and both of them scored centuries today; Mandhana got her 10th ODI hundred while it was Rawal’s maiden century.

The best part was the composure and the way she played second fiddle when Mandhana was all guns blazing. Once Mandhana got out for 135 is when her younger partner in Rawal started to accelerate. She got to a run-a-ball century and there was praise for her all over the internet, bettering her batting average which was already at 58+ before this game began. Here’s the Pratika Rawal century moment:

Experts on-air and everywhere else believe India has unearthed a star for the future and the way she’s been batting, we agree 100%. Rawal and Mandhana have 4 century partnerships in 6 ODIs batting together including another fifty partnership and a lowest partnership of 22 runs in the last ODI against West Indies at home. Together, these two seem unstoppable.

Since 2018, no Indian opener apart from Smriti Mandhana has scored an ODI century and that says a lot about her talent as well. The 24-year old has five List A centuries and this was the first one at the biggest stage. Playing for Delhi Women in the domestic circuit, there’s not much of domestic experience under her belt, and the maturity with the bat is commendable.
Pratika Rawal’s stamina is top-tier, her willingness of converting 1s into 2s even after batting over 40 overs is incredible. She is quick which is rarity in ICT Womens Cricket.

Pratika Rawal is ahead of Shafali for her ability to spend more time at the crease. Fitness and temperament needed for a long innings. Shouldn’t be dropped for Shefali unless she doesn’t perform imo.

She got to her hundred in 100 balls but stepped o the pace after that, getting to 150 in just 127 deliveries. She helped India Women get to their highest score in Women’s ODIs, surpassing their total of 370/5 which they got only a few days ago against the same opponent. It looked like she could bat all day long, eventually caught on the boundary for 154(129).
154 off 129 – Pratika Rawal 👏👏. The clock tick-tocks relentlessly and waits for none – Shafali Verma.
