Will Youngest T20 Centurion Record of Vaibhav Suryavanshi Ever Be Broken?

It was one afternoon during the 2013 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) that a certain Universe Boss Mr. Chris Gayle, scored 175(66)* for Royal Challengers Bangalore against Pune Warriors India. While doing so, he smashed a 30-ball century and on that day, we assumed that this record of the fastest IPL century may never be broken in years to come.

We’ve been right about that so far, even 12 years later. However, we witnessed magic off the bat of 14-year old prodigy Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who broke multiple records of his own, on the way to scoring a magnificent 35-ball century. He came close to challenging that decade-old Chris Gayle record, while making a few of his own too – including the youngest T20 centurion.

Will Youngest T20 Centurion Record of Vaibhav Suryavanshi Ever Be Broken?

Youngest T20 century record to stand forever?

There are some records you think may never be broken and while Gayle’s 30-ball century may be broken at some stage, we’re not sure of whether anyone can trump the record for the youngest T20 centurion – because Suryavanshi scored that at the age of only 14 years and 32 days. Before this, he broke the records for youngest to score an IPL fifty (in the same game), and youngest to make an IPL debut a few games ago.

See the youngest to debut in the IPL here:

  1. Vaibhav Suryavanshi – 14 years, 23 days.
  2. Prayas Ray Barman – 16 years, 157 days.
  3. Mujeeb Ur Rahman – 17 years, 11 days
  4. Riyan Parag – 17 years, 152 days
  5. Pradeep Sangwan – 17 years, 179 days

We don’t think there will be anyone who could make a debut younger than the age of 14 years and 23 days, so breaking his run scoring records before that seems nearly impossible. He not only holds the record for the youngest IPL century, but youngest overall T20 professional cricket century, across the globe.

He also has the record for the fastest IPL century by an Indian player, beating Yusuf Pathan’s 37-ball century which was recorded 15 years ago in IPL 2010. Even Pathan couldn’t resist congratulating the young kid on social media, especially since both of them made these records for the same IPL franchise, Rajasthan Royals:

He also broke the record for the youngest to win an IPL Man of the Match award, plus also scoring 11 sixes meant the join most sixes by an Indian in an IPL innings – equalling Murali Vijay here. Overall, 93% of his runs came in boundaries – that’s a stunning 94 runs from his knock of 101 runs. Other-worldly, really.
