Something unprecedented happened in Dharamshala yesterday as we witnessed a complete blackout and fans being evacuated from the stadium during an ongoing IPL 2025 match between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals. This was because of growing border tensions between India and Pakistan, and shelling / firing happening since the last couple of days.
Things escalated after India’s Operation Sindoor and that leads us to a very important question – Will IPL 2025 be suspended? Many of you may think that Dharamshala was close to Pathankot where an attack happened, but other venues are relatively safer. However, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) wishes to take no chances.

Will IPL 2025 continue?
Considering it’s the matter of the safety of fans and players, BCCI and the IPL managing committee will take no chances. They are keeping their options opened after a meeting this morning (9th May 2025), and that includes the option of suspending the league indefinitely. A decision hasn’t been made yet but we’ll update you here when one has been taken.
For the safety of all our players and cricket fan citizens attending the matches, I urge the govt to instruct @BCCI to cancel all matches and halt the #IPL tournament.
In solidarity with our #IndianArmedForces, may they be the only ones we cheer during these times. #JaiHind…

Cancel the entire IPL.
Players and broadcasters should return all the money.
Use that money to buy S-400s 💪🇮🇳.— JayK | (@Jordankumarr) May 9, 2025
UPDATE :
South Africa is being explored as possible venue for IPL 2025 remaining games.
Final decision awaits.

The decision is likely to come before Friday’s (10th May) match between Lucknow Super Giants and Royal Challengers Bangalore at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow. IPL Chairman Arun Dhumal who was at the stadium yesterday, mentioned that they are awaiting government directives on how to take things forward, before the decision is circulated publicly.

If you opened social media between last night and today, you will find a lot of fans pleading with BCCI to cancel the tournament, and send back all overseas players as soon as possible, for their own safety. Some even joked about who should be given the trophy in case the decision to cancel the tournament is taken:
Cancel the IPL admist the war. As per Duckworth Lewis rule, give the trophy to whoever retired from test cricket recently.

They should cancel the IPL at this point. Obviously they will use their power to make space for 3 weeks somewhere down the line and have the rest of the games. But having them now feels wrong

BCCI must cancel this ipl season atp, and make sure that all the foreign players go back to their respective countries.
We can’t risk anything.

There are a lot of theories online about whether IPL 2025 will be cancelled or moved to another country, but we’d wait for an official statement from BCCI and the IPL committee before updating it here on this page. As of now, Mufaddal Vohra broke the news of the IPL 2025 being suspended for now, with no further news come in yet.
