At the start of this 2021 Abu Dhabi T10 League, we promised you loads of runs, sixes and of course, entertainment. While it is a batsman’s game, we didn’t expect the bowlers to be celebrating too much but that’s what happened in tonight’s Match 9 between Northern Warriors and Delhi Bulls at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi.
Northern Warriors batted first and put up 137/3 in 10 overs which became the highest score of this season so far, courtesy their captain Nicholas Pooran who scored a quickfire fifty. In the chase, the Bulls had a steep hill to climb and frequent wickets weren’t helping their cause. And in the 9th over of the chase, Wayne Parnell cleared any doubts you would’ve had about who was going to win this contest.
On ball 8.2 of the innings, he bowled an unplayable yorker which saw the stumps being smashed and he dismissed Sherfane Rutherford. On ball 8.3, he managed some reverse swing and hit timber once again, this time knocking off the Bulls captain Dwayne Bravo and he managed to get a wicket on 8.4 as well, smashing into the pads of Ali Khan, as the umpire raised the finger.
With that, Parnell became the fourth player in T10 history to complete a hat-trick, after Pravin Tambe, Shahid Afridi and Aamer Yamin all did it over the last 3-4 years of this competition. Parnell followed it up with a subdued celebration, sporting a new haircut and a blonde hairstyle as well. Eventually, he ended with 2-0-15-3 on the night, confirming a Warriors victory.
