There’s currently a lot of hype around left-handed batter, Vaibhav Suryavanshi. You’ve been living under a rock if you don’t know why already. The player hit the headlines a while back for becoming the youngest player in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL) to be enrolled in an auction, doing so for the IPL 2025 mega auction.
Now while most people thought he would remain unsold, he hit the news again for getting a whopping 1.1 Crore contract at the auction, being gobbled up by the Rajasthan Royals franchise. With that, Suryavanshi became the youngest Crorepati in the history of the league, but soon later his focus had to turn to the ACC U-19 Asia Cup 2024 being played in the UAE.

Everyone wants to know how well he fared in this junior’s event in UAE, especially after bagging that big IPL 2025 contract. Is he worth the money? Is it all hype and nothing else? All these questions and more were to be answered. So we’re going to run you through Vaibhav Suryavanshi stats from the recent U-19 Asia Cup, where India U-19 lost the final to Bangladesh U-19.
He played a total of five 50-over games during the tournament and managed to rack up two fifties in that time. He started slow with scores of 1 and 23 against Pakistan U-19 and Japan U-19. From there, he took off to get fifties against UAE and Sri Lanka but failed with the bat in the all-important final against Bangladesh.

He hit a total of 176 runs in 5 games at an average of 44 but more importantly, scoring at a outrageous strike rate of 145.45, which is higher than most others in the tournament. He was the overall 7th highest run scorer in the U19 Asia Cup 2024, and second Indian after his captain Mohamed Amaan who got 189 runs in 4 innings.
So overall, he’s turned out with a fair report card for the tournament but we’re not sure if that justifies the Vaibhav Suryavanshi IPL price and his overall talent. If Rajasthan thinks he’s good enough to be playing in the best T20 league in the world, his scores needed to have been better and more consistent against a younger and less experienced group of players.

Domestically, he has already played for the Bihar stat team, playing 5 First Class and 1 T20 game so far. He’s yet to get a fifty in any of these matches so far, but we think the numbers will only get better from here on. For his age, he’s a super early achiever and the sky is the limit if he applies himself well over the next few years.
Coming to the tournament, India U-19 lost their first game to Pakistan but managed to recover and make the final. However, they fell short by 59 runs in the final, chasing 199 against Bangladesh.
