Just 8 players remain in the 2020 US Open men’s tournament and we’re down to the cream now, some of the best in the business. It’s getting tight for sports bettors as well and there’s plenty of value on offer as we move into the quarter final stage. Today, we’ll talk about the first quarter final and that one is the Borna Ćorić vs Alexander Zverev one!
Zverev begins as strong favourite because he is the #5 seed and currently #7 on the ATP Rankings. However, he hasn’t had too many deep runs in Grand Slams, with just one semi final appearance at the 2020 Australian Open while he had a couple of consecutive quarter finals in the 2018 and 2019 French Open tournaments. Right off the bat, we can say he doesn’t have much experience in these stages of Grand Slams!
As for Borna Ćorić, this is already his best run in Grand Slams, making his first quarter final after first playing these majors all the way back in 2014. The number #27 seed has been inspiring this year and while Zverev is favourite, we’re backing Ćorić and so should you, given the value that he’s offering. On BetWinner, for example, he’s up at pre-game odds of 3+ which is some decent value!
2020 US Open so far
Zverev has played 4 games so far in the 2020 US Open and while his last game in the Round of 32 was a straight sets win, he dropped a set each in every game before that. In fact, he lost the first set in two matches, including Round 1 against Kevin Anderson and Round 3 against Adrian Mannarino. If you think Zverev will win, probably place a bet on Ćorić winning the first set before getting better odds on Zverev!

Ćorić on the other hand has had two straight sets victories, in Round 1 as well as Round 4, while having two energy draining 5-setters so we know he can do the distance physically if required in this game! Both times, he’s recovered from 1-2 sets down and managed to get a win including against #4 seed Stepanos Tsitsipas whom he beat in Round 3.
Head to head, these two players have met four times in the circuit so far and while Zverev is way ahead in terms of ranking points, Ćorić is actually ahead H2H, leading 3-1. The last time these two met was in Germany in 2018 and there, the Croat got a easy straight sets win on the grass surface while they met in the 2017 US Open too, where Ćorić was victorious once again.
This is their second meeting in a Grand Slam and we’re all for Ćorić going the distance, probably in a 4-set or 5-set game. For sure, Ćorić is expected to bag the first set. If you’re doing live betting, go pre-game with Ćorić and once he takes down the first set, you can consider placing something on the German. For tournament betting, Ćorić is one of the biggest underdogs, currently at odds of 23 to win the US Open!
