Everyone was super excited about the 2022 US Open men’s semi finals and let us tell you that if you’re watching, you haven’t been disappointed so far. In just the first set of the first semi final of the men’s draw, we’ve seen some scintillating action in the Karen Khachanov vs Casper Ruud encounter in New York.
The first set itself lasted an hour and they needed a tie-breaker to decide a winner among the two. They didn’t have too many long rallies right through the first set but they decided to save the best point for last. Ruud was leading the tie-breaker 6-5 and needed one point to win the first set, but he was made to sweat it out by Khachanov, as the duo engaged in a 55-shot rally.
Khachanov vs Ruud: 55-shot rally
We’re not sure about the records for this year’s US Open 2022 men’s event but this was definitely the longest rally we’ve witnessed this year so far. Khachanov was ahead multiple times in the first set but gave away an early mini break in the tie-breaker and was left playing catch-up for a long time. At the end, it was this fabulous rally that saw Ruud securing the first set.
They tried ground stokes, slices, and everything in the rally. Eventually, Ruud hit one groundstroke straight down the right corner and it was too far for Khachanov, who reached out and tried his best to make the return, but it wasn’t good enough to get over the net. The best part was that it was the last point of the set as Ruud secured it 7-6 and took an early lead in the US Open 2022 semi final.

Both players were left panting after that long rally and as for Khachanov, no one would want to be him as it’s tough to get over the fact that you’ve lost such a long rally and point. He was broken early in the second set and went 1-2 down there too, and Ruud seemed clearly int he driver’s seat at the time of us preparing this article. Take a look at the video of this record rally here:

It was a really wild rally and social media was ablaze after seeing this point secured by Ruud. Both of them were equally in it but Ruud prevailed eventually. Thousands of users may be googling some of the longest rallies but we have to be honest with you that while this was an outrageous rally, we’re never close to the record which is 640+ shots.
What we heard later on air that this was probably the longest rally of the US Open 2022 tournament, with the second best being way less at 36 shots. Hopefully, we see some more intensity from Khachanov and this becomes a match to remember. For more updates on tennis and sports around the world in general, stay tuned to ReadScoops.com.
