We’re down to the final 4 players in the women’s tournament at New York in the 2020 US Open. Of them, we have a couple of top 4 seeds in Naomi Osaka and Serena Williams, a much lower seeded Jennifer Brady and the unseeded Victoria Azarenka. Both semi-finals will be played later tonight and we’re here to give you a small betting preview of Semi Final 1!
It’s Osaka vs Brady and it’s clearly going to be a very difficult one for sports bettors because Osaka is a clear favourite and it’s tough to have a bet on her unless she drops the first set and mind you, she hasn’t done that even once so far in the 2020 US Open. Among the two, Osaka has a couple of grand slam titles so she’s been at this stage before, whereas Brady had never made a quarter final prior to this tournament!
Osaka began as one of the tournament favourites and we ourselves had a few bets on her to take down the title at odds of 5+ in the earlier stages. However, the numbers are too low to take that punt as of now. She’s up at 2.25 odds for the tournament on BetWinner while Brady is the biggest underdog among the four, at odds of 3 to win this game and odds of 7.5 to go on to win the title itself!
2020 US Open so far
Osaka has dropped only one set so far in this tournament which came in her opening game against Misaki Doi. However, Brady has been flawless and she hasn’t dropped a single set so far, even steamrolling past Yulia Putintseva in the quarter final 6-3, 6-2. Before that, Brady got past Angelique Kerber in straight sets and she’s beaten two higher seeded players so far this tournament!

On the other hand, Osaka hasn’t been tested by a higher seeded player as yet and it’ll be interesting to see how she approaches this game. She’s an aggressive player but Brady does have the defence to contain Osaka and maybe even take the lead in this semi final. In her quarter final, Osaka got past Shelby Rogers 6-3, 6-4.
Osaka vs Brady head to head
These two have played each other twice on the circuit but none have been recently. It was way back in 2014 when they met as teenagers and there, Brady won in straight sets while more recently, they met in Charleston in 2018 and Osaka got revenge there. They’re tied 1-1 in head to head games but since these were a while ago, the stats don’t count for much!
Overall, we know how well Osaka can handle the big games and we expect her to win in straight sets today. She’s been at this stage in the past and in the US Open 2018 final, she even beat Serena Williams in straights to take down the title. There’s no value in outright win so we’re suggesting a straight sets bet tonight, at 1.98 odds with BetWinner!
