If there’s been one consistent force right through this US Open 2020 women’s tournament, it’s Naomi Osaka. All of the other top seeds had their ups and downs while the #4 seed Osaka continued to power through round after round, losing just three sets on the way. The thing about Osaka is that each time she’s got into the quarter final stage in the past of a grand slam, sh’es gone on to win the title (twice).
And on the other end of the net is Victoria Azarenka, 31-year old mother who is also looking for her 3rd career grand slam title, coming into this tournament unseeded and yet causing upset after upset. “But she’s a very, very powerful player. She’s a great champion. She’s won two already. Aren’t we both looking for a third one? It will be fun,” she said about the all-important finals clash against Osaka.
Having won two consecutive Australian Open titles between 2012 and 2013, it’s been years since Azarenka was at her best, also making two finals at the US Open in 2012 and 2013, losing both to Serena Williams. Mind you, she beat Serena in the semi finals this year and with that, made her first Grand Slam final in 7 years. The only thing on her side here is the hunger to win, and she’s up at odds of 2.44 to win with BetWinner!
2020 US Open so far
Osaka dropped a set in her first round game and then again against Marta Kostyuk and in her semi final game against Jennifer Brady. On paper, Osaka is the better bet but at 22 years of age, how determined are you to win? Azarenka was contemplating retirement for the longest time and now she’s back with a bang with a point to prove. What’s Osaka drive?

Azarenka lost two sets this tournament, once against Karolina Muchova and then once against Serena in the semi-final game. Remember, she showed character in that game to come back after losing the first set 6-1, only to power through 6-3, 6-3 to win! Of course, it also helped that Serena was suffering from a slight niggle that made her slightly short of 100% fitness!
Osaka vs Azarenka head to head
These two have been matched up on 4 occasions in the past, with the head-to-head count at 2-2. This includes two Grand Slam encounters with the count at 1-1 and the last time they were supposed to play each other, Azarenka won with a walkover so technically, one could argue that Osaka leads the head-to-head count at 2-1. Regardless, we know it’s a close affair.
These two have met twice on hard surfaces and Azarenka leads 2-0 which includes an Australia Open win in 2016 and this walkover in Cincinnati earlier this year. Remember, Azarenka was trailing 18-4 on the H2H count against Serena before her semi-final as well. Betting on both players to win at least one set is a smart pick, and you can do that at odds of 2.35 with BetWinner!
