The Championships Wimbledon has always brought out some of the best tennis action you can see. And Wimbledon 2022 seems to be no different as we’re seeing some scintillating tennis being played in both the men’s and women’s tournaments. One particular game we were wowed by was in the men’s draw, Round 2.
The game in question saw Alastair Gray taking on USA’s Taylor Fritz and the latter was a clear favourite, but was put to the test by his opponent. Gray is a British player who got a Wimbledon wildcard to this tournament and won a lot of hearts in this game against Fritz. Eventually, Fritz won in straight sets but not before being pushed to his limits.
Taylor Fritz dives to make a point at Wimbledon 2022
The first and third sets were relatively easier for Fritz as he won them both 6-3. However, he was tested the most in the second set of the game which even went on to reach the tie-breaker. Fritz brought out all his experience in the tie-breaker and was leading comfortably at 6-3. However, he knew he couldn’t snooze even for a minute because his opponent was waiting for an opportunity.
In what became the final point of that tie-breaker, Gray made a fabulous return volley from the net and turned around to celebrate his point, while running back to the baseline. However, he heard the crowd roar and turned back to see the ball in his court. Fritz did his best to reach the ball which was actually out of his reach, dived and managed to return the ball over the net.

He was pumped to know he made the point, and so was the crowd. Gray on the other hand was shocked and disappointed, knowing that he played a brilliant point but still lost the point. And it was a great time for Fritz to display this athleticism because it got him the point that allowed him to win the tie-breaker and go 2-0 up in the match as well.
Eventually, he went on to beat Gray and will play his Wimbledon 2022 Round 3 game against Alex Molcan, the latter being unseeded and Fritz expected to win in straight sets once again. The 24-year old from San Diego is the number #11 seed at Wimbledon 2022 and it’ll be interesting to see if he can go deep in the tournament and make the quarters or even semi finals here.
The Wimbledon official Twitter account also decided to post about this fabulous shot played by Fritz in his Round 2 game. The caption read, “Everyone thought the point was finished… apart from @Taylor_Fritz97 !Absolutely OUTSTANDING 😮”. He sat on the ground and enjoyed his performance after winning the point. See here:
