Today marks the final of the 2023 Australian Open women’s singles tournament. And it brings to the end a fortnight of hard work put in by some of the best female tennis players from across the world. Fans from across the globe tuned in to watch the final today and at the venue (Melbourne Park), quite a few known names tried to get themselves a seat too.
It was Elena Rybakina vs Aryna Sabalenka (seed #22 vs #5) in the women’s final and the stadium was packed to see these two in action. Rybakina came into the final trying to secure her second grand slam title after her victory in Wimbledon 2022 while Sabalenka was playing her first grand slam final. And among the stars in attendance on the final was actor Russell Crowe.

Known for his films like Gladiator (2000), Robin Hood (2010), and others, we’re not sure if Crowe is a tennis enthusiast as he hasn’t been spotted at the games too many times. He was spotted by the cameras within the first few minutes of the Rybakina vs Sabalenka final, honestly looking much older than we’ve seen him in recent times.
Crowe was seen seated with his girlfriend Britney Theriot who is 39 years old while the Aussie actor is nearly 60, so there were quite a few memes on social media, one even saying that it was nice of Crowe to get his daughter to the 2023 Australian Open final. Jokes aside though, it’s good to see big names make their way down to the tennis and we’re sure Crowe will be entertained today at the Rod Laver Arena.

Talking about the tennis, #22 seed Elena Rybakina wasn’t the favourite going into the game but she broke immediately and took an early lead in the first set. Sabalenka broke back but was broken again at a crucial time, leaving Rybakina having to serve for the set and winning 6-4. Rybaina won the first set at the time of us writing this and we’re sure she looks good enough to go on to win it as well.

Prior to this game, the number #5 seed Sabalenka hadn’t lost a single set in the tournament and this was a first for her. She’s being put to the test and considering how she’s come back from losing the first set in the past, we think se can still make a game out of this 2023 Australian Open final from here on.
