The November-December period is usually a very quiet one for Tennis fans but not this year, as most of 2020 was quiet anyway thanks to the Covid-19 pandemic. However, sports action is back to normal and in the tennis field, we have the very prestigious Australian Open 2021 barely a month and a half away! The tournament has been scheduled to take place between 8-21 Feb 2021!
Players are busy training and preparing themselves to be crowned the next champion and while these preparations take place, we’ve heard news of Swiss pro and former world number one Roger Federer pulling out of the upcoming Grand Slam, which is just one of four such slams in the year. The 20-time Grand Slam winner confirmed he won’t be participating in AO 2021 post a knee injury.

There have been plenty of talks in the past about Federer’s retirement but the player doesn’t seem to age at all. Now 39 years old, most players wouldn’t be able to move half as swiftly as Roger does. It has been a road to recovery for the player ever since he had 2 knee surgeries earlier this year and while he won’t be ready for AO 2021, he has confirmed that retirement is not on the cards yet and that he will be making a comeback in 2021.
“Roger has decided not to play the 2021 Australian Open. He has made strong progress in the last couple of months with his knee and his fitness,” said his agent Tony Godsick in a statement. Originally supposed to begin earlier, the Australian Open was delayed by 3 weeks because of border restrictions to curb the spread of coronavirus and when it does kick off, the tournament will miss the 6-time Australian Open champion, Federer!
