In our US Open 2020 preview, we urged sports bettors to place a bet on Novak Djokovic to NOT win the 2020 men’s tournament and a few hours ago, that bet would’ve paid you hefty dividends as the top seeded player was knocked out of the tournament in the Round of 16 game against Pablo Carreno Busta!
In his Round of 32 game, he cruised through after beating Jan-Lennard Struff in straight sets but here, he barely got past the first set of the game. Djokovic was trailing 5-6 in the first set when he hit one of the lines official in the neck with a ball. A decision was made on the spot about an infringement of rules and Djokovic’s tournament ended on a bizarre note, being disqualified from the US Open 2020!

Causing intentional harm is not something the US Open officials decided to take lying down. The tournament official had a lengthy chat with the chair umpire before announcing that Djokovic was disqualified from competing in the rest of the game and the tournament, while it was later announced that he will also lose his US Open ranking points and prize money!
If you see the tweet below, Djokovic is seen hitting the ball in the direction of a female lines official. It hits her unaware in the throat, she clutches her neck and hits the ground. Djokovic immediately rushed to the spot to ensure she’s fine and she had to leave the court a little later. See what happened:

“This whole situation has left me really sad and empty. I checked on the lines person and the tournament told me that thank God she is feeling ok. I‘m extremely sorry to have caused her such stress. So unintended. So wrong. I’m not disclosing her name to respect her privacy. As for the disqualification, I need to go back within and work on my disappointment and turn this all into a lesson for my growth and evolution as a player and human being. I apologize to the @usopen tournament and everyone associated for my behavior. I’m very grateful to my team and family for being my rock support, and my fans for always being there with me. Thank you and I’m so sorry,” said Djokovic in an emotional post on his Instagram account a little later.
US Open 2020 Betting – Men’s
With the top ranked men’s player now out of the tournament, we have decreased odds on some of the other players to win the 2020 US Open on BetWinner. Dominic Thiem has contested a couple of finals so far and will be hungry to take down his first Grand Slam title, making him a good bet at 4.5 odds right now. I also think Borna Coric is a good option at odds of 11 and remember, he beat the 4th seed Stepanos Tsitsipas a few games back!
