What a legend, isn’t he?!
One of the greatest players of all time in the modern era, Serbia’s Novak Djokovic a few minutes ago went on to claim his 9th ever Australian Open Gram Slam title. The world number one came into this tournament as the top seed as well but he did have a few issues on his way to the final, battling injuries and clearly not being at his best.
In the final of the 2021 Australian Open, he was pitted up against #4 seed from Russia, Daniil Medvedev. They have played each other a few times in the past and Medvedev has even had success against Djoker in the past. However, it wasn’t to be today as the big occasion got to the Russian, losing in straight sets in the final!
Eventually, the scoreboard read 7-5, 6-2, 6-2 in favour of the Serb world number one as he claimed his 18th career Grand Slam title. He has come here and done it time and time again in Melbourne and it was yet another perfect night for him. This comes a day after Naomi Osaka won the women’s tournament final of the 2021 Australian Open.
He has now won this tournament in 2019, 2020 and 2021, making it three in a row at the Australian Open for the second time in his career. It was yet another fabulous shot to finish the tournament as he ran up to the net on a break point, and completed an overhead volley to go down into the history books yet again.

He showed everyone who’s the champion yet again as he wins the 2021 Australian Open final in straight sets. You have to feel bad for Medvedev who has been at this stage a few times in recent slams but he’s yet to go on to write his name on a Grand Slam title. He is one for the future and it’s safe to say he will be back for more in the future. For now, Djokovic continues to be the King of Melbourne Park!
