It was in 2008 that a teenager Johanna Konta turned pro and started touring and playing games on the WTA tennis circuit. While according to her, all the evidence showed she wouldn’t make it big in this sport, she made quite a name for herself over the next dozen years, achieving a career best single’s rank of world number #4 in July 2017.
With 11 singles and 4 doubles titles, she’s won her share of silverware as well, and even made three semi finals in Grand Slams ever since her first appearance in one in 2008 until her last Grand Slam appearance at the 2021 French Open. The British tennis player will now be referred to as a former tennis player as she took to social media yesterday to announce her retirement.

She tweeted yesterday with caption “A little update from me 👋” and posted a small noted titled “Grateful” along with some of the best pictures of her playing days. She mentioned that grateful is the word she’s used most throughout her tennis career and she ended the note saying she’s grateful once again.
“I got to live my dreams. I got to become what I wanted and said as a child,” she said as part of the note. She tanked the people who guided and helped her get to where she was, while announcing that her playing career has come to an end. Still only 30 years old, we thought Konta has a few more years left in her, but she clearly thought otherwise.
