Indian Wells 2022 final – Iga Swiatek vs Maria Sakkari
The 20-year old Iga Świątek from Poland was the first to book her spot in the Indian Wells 2022 final and she’s definitely more experienced than her opponent in making major finals. She made the semi final of the Australian Open 2022 grand slam and won the Qatar Open 2022 right before this one. The one-time Grand Slam winner is a hot favourite to win here too, at odds of 1.50 with ComeOn.
On the other hand is Maria Sakkari from Greece who is 26 years old and while she hasn’t had as much of success as Swiatek, she’s a powerhouse and will definitely be aggressive right from the world go. The Greek has no titles in 2022 so far but will be looking to open her account here, with plenty of chances as underdog, rated at pre-match winner odds of 2.60.
Indian Wells 2022 so far
It wasn’t the easiest journey to the Indian Wells 2022 WTA final for the #3 seed as all of her first three matches went to three sets. Then, she found a little bit more of stability as she reached the quarters and the semis, where she won in straight sets each. She beat Simona Halep 7-6, 6-4 in her semi but hasn’t been contested in this tournament, with #15 seed Angelique Kerber being the highest ranked player she was up against.

As for her opponent, Maria Sakkari has spent barely any time on the court this tournament so far. She had two easy straight sets wins in her first couple of rounds, a first set walkover in the third round, a straight sets win in the quarter final and her best performance coming in another straight sets win in her semi final against the #5 seed Paul Badosa Gibert. Iga Swiatek vs Maria Sakkari – head to head
These two have played each other four times in professional games and so far, it’s the Greek who leads the Swiatek vs Sakkari head to head count, 3-1. Three of their matches came in 2021 and Sakkari won them all, including one being a Grand Slam encounter (French Open 2021). Three of their four encounters have been played on a hard surface and it was only their most recent game that Swiatek won, beating her in straight sets in the Qatar Open 2022 semi final.
