The ATP Challenger Shehzhen is an annual ATP hard-court tennis tournament that takes place in Shenzhen, China. The 2017 tournament was won by #2 seed Yuichi Sugita. The tournament first took place in 2014 and the 2018 ATP Shenzhen Challenger is currently underway, with the Round of 32 in progress.
The 24-year old Ivashka beat the 22-year old and less experienced Napolitano 6-3, 6-4 and will now be preparing for his Round of 16 game. Ivashka came in to this game with only 2 wins from his last 5 games while Napolitano came in to it with 3 wins from his last 5 games. However, Ivashka has been around the circuit for a longer while, and is ranked #148 on the ATP Rankings, as compared to Napolitano’s #180.
The two had no prior head to head meetings but Ivashka has now taken a 1-0 lead. There were a few other Round of 32 games being played simultaneously, where Hiroki Moriya beat #2 seed Jordan Thompson in three sets and #5 seed Yannick Maden beat Blaz Rola in straight sets. Also, the game between Uladzimir Ignatik and another former Shenzhen champ Blaz Kavčič has just begun.
