If you’re a part of the sporting industry, you’d know that you should be keeping yourself indoors and not on the ground and courts, because of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. A bunch of top sporting professionals have bee infected with the virus and you thought that the others would’ve exercised a bit of caution after that.
However, we noticed the most reckless charity match happening recently where some of the top names in men’s tennis gathered together to play for a good cause. However, I use the word reckless because countless photos have cropped up on the internet of all players hanging around each other without any gloves, masks or other protective gear.
At a time when millions of people around the world are suffering, it was kind of arrogant that this Novak Djokovic charity match took place. In fact, even the ball boys and other crew were roaming about as normal, handing over towels to the players, and doing everything that we’ve been taught not to do in the last few months.
Right enough, we had Bulgarian professional player Grigor Dimitrov who tested positive for COVID-19 less than a week after the tournament. He took to social media to announce the same and also post an apology note where he said sorry to the others who were also exposed due to his close contact with the others during the charity event.

The event happened in Croatia on Saturday but Dimitrov didn’t even take the field, pulling out of the game before his opening singles match against Croatian, Borna Coric. He cited illness as the reason and he was one of many who didn’t exercise enough caution before deciding to be a part of this exhibition event.
Dimitrov posted on Instagram to let his fans know about the same. His caption read, “Hi Everyone-I want to reach out and let my fans and friends know that I tested positive back in Monaco for Covid-19. I want to make sure anyone who has been in contact with me during these past days gets tested and takes the necessary precautions. I am so sorry for any harm I might have caused. I am back home now and recovering. Thanks for your support and please stay safe and healthy. GD”
Soon later, it was Coric himself who took to social media to post about he himself being tested positive for coronavirus. He also issued an apology to all those he came in contact with while also mentioning that he didn’t have any symptoms for the disease. Here’s his letter he posted to Twitter:
