One of the better women’s games we’ve seen in the 2022 French Open so far, today was an encounter between Karolina Muchova and Amanda Anisimova in Round 3 of the tournament. We saw one of the most fiercely fought set of women’s tennis as the action went on for more than an hour and twenty minutes, with the Czech player Muchova winning 7-6 after a brilliant comeback in the first set tie-break.
She was down 1-5 at one stage in the tie-break and showed a whole lot of character as she came back to win that game and set. However, she was unfortunate to hurt her ankle and fall down early in the second set while the score was still at 2-2. She rolled her ankle and after a long injury timeout, she decided to continue playing.
Karolina Muchova trudges off court with injury
She has been out of tennis action for 6-7 months and shortly after making her comeback to professional tennis, it was heartbreaking to see Muchova get yet another injury. And once she returned from the injury timeout, she wasn’t able to move and it wasn’t long before she succumbed to a 2-6 defeat in the second set.
It was just a matter of time after that as Muchova was walking gingerly on the court and was just showing a fight by still being on court. She couldn’t move and didn’t bother to run to save many points either. Early in the third set, she was broken twice and went 0-3 down before she realised that this is too difficult for her to continue, and decided to retire hurt in this game.

Amanda Anisimova on to Round 4
With that, her 20-year old American opponent Anisimova went on to progress to Round 4 of the tournament, though it wasn’t the ideal way she’d want to progress in this women’s event. When taking the injury timeout, Muchova was seen crying as tears rolled down her face and she used a towel to cover her emotions. She was even seen crying later as she wasn’t able to compete on the pitch anymore.

We hope the injury was not too serious and that she manages to recover soon from it, because she played some really good tennis today and we’d love to see more of that soon again. Wimbledon 2022 is the next grand slam from here and she’ll be aiming to make a comeback in time for that major women’s tournament.
Anisimova progresses to Round 4 and she is someone who has ran deep in a French Open tournament in the past as well. She likes the clay surface and we’re sure she’s going to win a couple of more games from here on.
