WATCH: Carlos Alcaraz Stunning Point From Behind His Back

It’s been a great journey over the last 10 days at the 2022 US Open with some great action in both the men’s as well as women’s draws. Today, we had a great battle between a 19 and 21-year old and the two of them are certainly going to be the future of men’s tennis over the next decade or so. We’re talking about the last of the men’s quarter finals – Jannik Sinner vs Carlos Alcaraz.

The kind of shots and athleticism on display today were like none other and it’s sad that only one of the two could progress from today’s quarter final. Alcaraz won the first set but Sinner made a brilliant comeback to win two consecutive tie breaks and take home the fourth set as well, winning 3-1 and securing a spot in his maiden career grand slam semi final.

Carlos Alcaraz scores behind-the-back point

Both players showcased a huge repertoire of stroke today, jumping and running around. However, it was one part of the second set where the 19-year old Spanish kid Alcaraz scored a point which we haven’t really seen before. We don’t know what to call or term this shot but he managed to score a point after one return during the rally was made from behind his back.

Sinner was more or less dominating the rally and he tried to put the point to rest by smashing one towards Alcaraz. However, the Spaniard, who almost overran the ball, extended the racket from behind his back and made the return, straight to Sinner who was waiting at the net. The Italian was clearly not expecting the return to be made and his volley back was a pretty weak one, allowing Alcaraz to hit the winner.

Social media was on absolute fire after seeing Alcaraz pull off that shot and even secure the point. Even his coach Juan Carlos Fererro was in awe of what he just witnessed, managing to pull out a smile at the genius of his young protégé. Even though he had all his tricks on display, Alcaraz went on to lose the set and the match to the number #11 seed, but we know that he’s got many more quarter finals to come.

The kind of creativity he displayed in the 12th game of this second set is something he pulls out quite often, with many tweener shots and splits coming up every now and then. Everyone was standing to applaud this particular play and we think we’ve got many more years of applauding Alcaraz to come. Take a look at that point here:

Sinner will now go on to play USA’s #22 seed Frances Tiafoe, both playing their first respective grand slam semi finals. That’s also expected to be a thriller after Tiafoe beat Andrey Rublev in straight sets in their quarter final round.
