Jakarta, 22 August 2018: The Indian pair of Rohan Bopanna and Divij Sharan on Wednesday beat Chengpeng Hsieh-Tsung and Hua Yang of Chinese Taipei 6-3, 5-7, 10-1 to qualify for the semi-final of the Men’s Doubles Tennis event here at the Jakabaring Sport City (JSC) Tennis Court. With this win, the duo have assured India of at least a bronze medal.
It was a great day for the pair, winning their quarter final match-up. It was an even more special day for Bopanna in particular, as he also won his Mixed Doubles Tennis 3rd Round match with his partner, Ankita Raina. Raina also made a splash earlier in the day, by breezing into the Women’s Singles semi-final beating Hong Kong’s Chong Eudice Wong 6-4, 6-1.

The Bopanna/Sharan team will now take on Japan’s K. Uesugi and S. Shimabukuro in their semi-final match-up and the hopes of Team India winning medals in Tennis are high. The Indian duo are the top seeds in the Men’s Doubles competition so we should expect nothing less than gold from them.
Overall, at the end of another day of play at the 2018 Asian Games, India are assured of two more medals (at least bronze), but we could expect better than bronze as well. We would like to congratulate our Tennis champions for reaching thus far and wish them the best of luck for the rest of their matches, as and when they are played.
Celebrating teamwork, scripting history.
