Best Tweets From South African Cricketers on WTC Win!

It’s a massive day in the history of South African cricket, is 14th June 2025. Over the years, they’ve gained the unfortunate tag of being called ‘Chokers’ because they do well at ICC events but can never go on to win a trophy. The most recent example was the 2024 T20 World Cup where they gave away a winning position to lose to India at Barbados.

However, it’s time to shed the tag of choker. After years of being unable to win an ICC trophy (the last one coming in the ICC Knockout Trophy of 1998), South Africa will go down in history as they have beaten Australia to win the 2025 World Test Championship final against Australia, at the Home of Cricket in UK – Lord’s.

South Africa win WTC 2025 final!

South Africa won 8 Test matches in a row to reach the WTC 2025 final and many people thought they didn’t deserve to be there, getting an easier path to the final than Australia. However, they proved their mettle when it counted the most, beating Australia after being put in to chase 282 in the 4th innings. History has been made!

They started the final by bowling out Australia for 212 runs but what followed was a batting collapse that saw them being bowled out for 138 runs in reply. From that deficit, not many believed that they would be able to recover but they did so in style, thanks mostly to one of the best batting efforts of the career of Aiden Markram, who hit 136(207) – his 8th Test century.

Markram stood tall on the highest stage and brought his team to the brink of something special, getting dismissed when they needed only 6 more runs to win. However, he played his part and walked off to a sea of applauses at Lord’s, allowing his teammates to hit the winning runs. Kagiso Rabada also played his part in the Test with 9 wickets in the final.

Dale Steyn tweeting on WTC Final 2025 victory

We’re covering some of the past South African cricketers who celebrated the moment on social media, those who have been a part of the team for decades but weren’t able to be successful like this team led by Temba Bavuma. One of them was Dale Steyn who was tweeting right through the course of the game, while AB de Villiers was there in his whites to support from the stadium too.

After the 1st innings, not many believed that South Africa could turn around this game, but they did and have scripted history in the process. Eventually, Kyle Verreynne hit the winning runs and South Africa went down as WTC winners, beating Australia by 5 wickets in the all-important final. All the previous lack of success will be forgotten today. Well done South Africa!

What’s funny is that Verreynne was actually caught behind when the scores were tied but it was given not out on field, and Australia had no reviews left. A bit of an anti-climax but either way, South Africa reigned supreme at the end of the day, just before the stroke of lunch.
