Three ODIs into this series between South Africa and Sri Lanka and the scoreline may read 3-0 and a series victory under the home team’s belt, but trust me, this has been a frustrating series for both sides. Sri Lanka, for obvious reasons of not being able to register wins. South Africa, for still being unable to find the right team combination ahead of the 2019 ICC World Cup.
A string of changes will be made in both sides with 2 ODIs to go, as a last attempt to try out different players before the World Cup. However, captain Faf du Plessis believes that the team is 99% of where they want to be at this point of time. The 4th ODI takes place at Port Elizabeth and you can read our complete fantasy preview for this game here…

South Africa
Major changes are being made for the final two ODIs. Firstly, we don’t believe that Reeza Hendricks will be catching a flight to England for the World Cup. Great domestic performances means he got a chance to perform in national colours but 1, 29 and 4 weren’t good enough scores. He was initially dropped to give Hashim Amla a hit but the latter has dropped out due to his father’s illness so this will be Hendricks’ last chance for a while.
Another person called up was Aiden Markram and he will fit straight in to the side after scores of 169, 139 and 85 in the domestic circuit. These last 2 games before the World Cup are his last chances too, and he may come in to open in place of Hendricks either way. Another person brought back into the squad is JP Duminy and he should also be in the playing 11, replacing of Wiaan Mulder.
Sri Lanka
As for Sri Lanka, there have been a couple of shining lights on this tour and one has been Kusal Perera, who got himself a hamstring injury in the 3rd ODI and has been ruled out for the rest of the series. All signs point towards them extending their ODI losing streak, having won only 1 of their last 10 games. Angelo Perera may get his first ODI in 3 years, in place of Kusal.
It was a good move to bring Isuru Udana into the team for the 3rd ODI and his 2/50 in that game means he’s in my fantasy side for the 4th ODI too, along with Lasith Malinga, who is yet to shine in this series. With the at, added responsibility on Kusal Mendis’ shoulders but I think he is worth selecting, with scores of 60, 24 and 41 in this series so far, where the rest of the Sri Lankan batsmen have really struggled.
