Siddharthh Kaul Announces International Retirement!

It was March 2008 when we saw a bunch of young Indian kids winning the U-19 World Cup in Malaysia, dominating Wayne Parnell’s South Africa in the final. While Virat Kohli went on to have the longest international career from them by miles, a few of them did well over the years in international cricket.

Taruwar Kohli, Shreevats Goswami, and Saurabh Tiwary were already a few from this bunch who called it quits on their international careers recently. Now, one of their leading bowlers from that tournament, Siddharthh Kaul, has posted on social media to announce his retirement from international cricket.

The now 34-year old pacer made both of his T20I and ODI debut in 2018, but he hasn’t played a single game at the highest level for more than 5 years now. He even represented four IPL franchises over the years, getting 58 wickets in 55 games. While he hasn’t said anything about his IPL future, he last played in IPL 2022 (1 match for RCB), and it’s unlikely he features there again.

“When I was a child playing cricket in the fields in Punjab, I had one dream. A dream to represent my country. In 2018, by Gods grace, I received my India Cap Number 75 in the T20i team and Cap Number 221 in the ODI team. The time has now come to call time on my career in India and announce my retirement.” was the start of his short note on social media.

Nowadays, players have the easy call to make of retiring, because there are leagues like the Legends League Cricket along with many other international competitions they can participate in, which BCCI doesn’t allow for current Indian cricketers. So, don’t be surprised if he’s at Global T20 Canada or the Caribbean Premier League sometime soon. Big Bash even, maybe?!

“Words cannot express my gratitude for the love and support I have received through all the highs and lows of my career. I want to thank God for the path that has been made for me; the fans for the endless support; my parents and family for the sacrifices and confidence you have given me, especially during the injuries and lows; my teammates over the years for the dressing room memories and friendships; the BCCI for fulfilling a young child’s dream to represent India and win the 2008 Under-19 World Cup and receive my T20i and ODI caps in 2018!” the post added.

He ended his post by saying ‘on to the next chapter’, but he didn’t mention what that next chapter in his career would hold. We wish him all the best for the second innings in his cricket career and for similar cricketing updates from around the world, please remember to always stay tuned to ReadScoops.com.
