The World Championship of Legends (WCL) is back again in full swing, taking place in England between 18 July and 2 August 2025. Shikhar Dhawan refuses to play Pakistan
It’s not even been a couple of months since the Pahalgam terror attack, and the following tensions between the two countries. During the time, many ties were severed and in India, everything related to Pakistan was banned and boycotted. In the meantime, WCL 2025 went on to schedule a India-Pakistan match in Birmingham, the only game scheduled for the day.

Shikhar Dhawan took to his social media to post about an email his team sent back on 11 May about the same, which you can see above. He posted the image of the email along with the caption, “Jo kadam 11 May ko liya, uspe aaj bhi waise hi khada hoon. Mera desh mere liye sab kuch hai, aur desh se badhkar kuch nahi hota. Jai Hind! 🇮🇳”

The email context included a formal reiteration that Mr. Shikhar Dhawan won’t be participating in any of the games against Pakistan in the upcoming WCL league. It also states that this point was put up multiple times during discussions. The game in question was India’s opening one of the campaign while Pakistan played a previous game against England Legends, where they beat the home side by 5 runs.

This one in question was the only scheduled league game between India and Pakistan, but there’s a good chance that the two sides could meet again in case they qualify for the knockout stage. It will be interesting to see what decision will be arrived at the time, if that ends up happening.
While most Indian fans have lauded the collective decision of the team to pull out from the game, many others have criticised the decision. Videos emerged of Harbhajan Singh going to eat at a Pakistani restaurant in England, just the night before, which shows signs of ‘double standards’. However, this isn’t verified information as yet.
