There’s a lot going on at the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, where we’ve reached the semi final stage now. In Semi Final 1, we have India vs Australia taking place in Dubai and while we’re not sure of the outcome yet, one thing we do know is that Rohit Sharma has lost yet another ODI toss for Team India, extending their record-breaking streak of losing tosses.
Prior to this game, India had already broken this unwanted record of having lose the most consecutive ODI tosses. And here in the semi final, Rohit went on to lose 14 tosses now, extending this record which we don’t think will be broken anytime soon in international cricket. Steve Smith won the toss for Australia and chose to bat first in this knockout game.

The memes and jokes online were already flowing in when they lost their 13th consecutive toss, but it just continues today after losing the toss to Australia in the all-important semi final. If we have to put that into a percentage, the odds of losing 14 coin tosses in a row is approximately 0.0061%, so Rohit Sharma is getting into the record books for all the wrong reasons now. However, they’re not losing in the field, winning all three of their group stage games in the 2025 Champions Trophy so far, so the toss isn’t really affecting them much until now.

India has been moving closer and closer to winning another ICC trophy and this semi final against Australia is a very important game in their campaign. Australia has proved to be a thorn in the side for the Indians in recent years, beating them in the 2023 World Test Championship final, followed by the 2023 ICC World Cup final later in the same year.

We’ll be keeping an eye on the team’s performance during the semi final, regardless of whether they win or lose tosses.
