Much before the 18th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) began, there was talk about how batting records are going to be crumbling. The team totals are now going 250+ quite easily, which means it’s a nightmare for all bowlers. And it was only the second day of IPL 2025 that we saw the record for the most expensive IPL figures in the tournament’s history.
Unfortunately, that record will now be held by Jofra Archer, England and Rajasthan Royals pacer who is considered one of the most lethal bowlers in this format around the world. However, Match 2 of IPL 2025 had other plans for Archer, who was hit all around the park to now hold the record of the most expensive spell in the IPL – 0/76 in 4 overs.
Most expensive spell in IPL history – Jofra Archer
The record was previously held by Mohit Sharma for Gujarat Titans against the Delhi Capitals in IPL 2024 itself, where he gave away 0/73 in his 4 overs. However, the way these IPL batting records are going crashing through the roof, we don’t see Archer holding on to this record for too much longer. Five of the top 6 most expensive IPL spells have been witnessed post IPL 2023 now.

Jofra Archer has so much ability but hasn’t translated in performance in the IPL yet.

We’re putting together some of the funniest reactions on Jofra Archer’s new IPL bowling record, across Twitter (now X). Incidentally, most of the top entries in IPL’s most expensive spells are by pacers, with Mujeeb Rahman’s 0/66 being the most expensive IPL spell by a spinner, which came in IPL 2019 when he was representing Punjab Kings.

Archer is one of the best T20 bowlers in the world, but he somehow hasn’t been able to bring his best game to the Indian Premier League, as rightly pointed out by Irfan Pathan on X. In fact, he was paid a whopping INR 12.5 Crore in the IPL 2025 auction to be brought to the Royals setup. See some more funny reactions from Twitter:

It’s never good to miss out on a century, but that happened today. Jofra Archer falling 24 runs short. Give that man a fifth over!

They called today’s outing for Rajasthan a ‘Royal Hammering’ and that’s exactly what it was. And while almost all the bowlers were expensive, you’d expect more from your overseas professional players. Eventually, SRH ended up with a score of 286/6 in their 20 overs, and they’re now the only team to have scored four 250+ totals in T20 cricket.
Everyone talking about 200+ SR from SRH batters but no one talking about 300+ SR from Jofra Archer.

This ended up being one run short of the highest IPL score of 287 which SRH themselves scored in IPL 2024. Furthermore, they now hold 4 of the top 5 entries in the list of the highest IPL totals. They were helped with a good fifty from Travis Head followed by a century for Ishan Kishan, playing his first game for SRH.
