What is RCB’s IPL Playoffs History?

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) is one of the most popular franchises in the Indian Premier League (IPL), boasting a massive fan following. Despite their consistent presence and often star-studded lineups, their journey in the IPL playoffs has been a tale of tantalising near misses and persistent unfulfilled hopes.

RCB has a notable record of qualifying for the IPL playoffs, having done so ten (10) times in the tournament’s history, as of May 2025. This places them among the more frequent playoff contenders in IPL history. However, the elusive IPL trophy has always remained just out of reach, making that the sole goal for the team in recent years.

What is RCB's IPL Playoffs History?

RCB’s IPL Playoffs record till date

On this page on Read Scoops, we’ve delve into RCB’s playoff history and record, examining their performance in each qualification year. After a horrible IPL 2008, they made the final in IPL 2009, losing the final to Deccan Chargers, by a narrow margin of 6 runs. That first attempt was probably RCB’s closest chance to win an IPL title.

Before the IPL Playoffs were ideated, the tournament followed a knockout format with the semi finals and final. They lost the semi final after qualifying in IPL 2010, while IPL 2011 was another trophy chance as they made the final but lost to CSK by 58 runs in the final. This was the only time an RCB team topped the IPL points table. See their complete IPL Playoffs record below:

Along with the table topping season in IPL 2011, RCB has only finished in the top two on two other occasions, in IPL 2016 and IPL 2025. IPL 2016 was also the third (and last) time they made an IPL final, losing there to David Warner’s Sunrisers Hyderabad by another margin of 8 runs. When we last updated this, their IPL 2025 final result had not been declared.

Post Covid-19, RCB became the most consistent side in the IPL, becoming the only team to make the playoffs 5 times out of 6 seasons between IPL 2020 to IPL 2025. Three times from these five, they ended up losing the Eliminator, which turned out to be a bit of an anti-climax for RCB fans around the world.

If you see the RCB Playoffs records table above, you will know that this team has it in them to be among the best, but the icing on the cake has been missing thus far. Talking about numbers, RCB has played a total of 15 IPL Playoffs matches so far, having won only 5 and lost 10 of these matches; this is a win percentage of only 33.33% in the most important games.

Virat Kohli holds the record for the most runs for RCB in IPL Playoffs (341 runs), while S Aravind holds the record for most wickets (10 wickets) in these games. Hopefully as the team builds under the new leadership of Rajat Patidar, we may see the RCB Playoffs record getting better over the years.
