Today, that record was broken in the first game of the 2025 Major League Cricket game between Washington Freedom and San Francisco Unicorns.

In MLC 2025 Game 1, San Francisco put up a record score of 269/5, putting them in the driver’s seat to win the opening game of the season, and this was possible mostly because of a mammoth 151(51) by one player.

Usually, teams aren’t able to hit 19 sixes as a collective effort in a T20 game but here, SFU smashed 28 maximums across their 20 overs. We’re talking about Kiwi T20 player Finn Allen who hit 19 sixes in a single innings, breaking multiple records along the way including one for the most sixes by an individual in a T20 innings.

Other records that went down included the fastest century in MLC history, along with the highest score in the competition so far. Interestingly, Allen has been on this list in the past too, for most sixes in a T20 innings, hitting 16 sixes in a T20I innings for New Zealand against Pakistan in Jan 2024, where he scored 137.

The 26-year old was picked by Royal Challengers Bangalore in the past but unfortunately, didn’t get to play a single game for them or in the IPL in general so far. Along with 19 sixes, he only managed 5 fours so it was clear that Allen had no intention to keep the ball down. In the chase, Washington began brilliantly but they lost their way after the powerplay, losing wickets in a heap even though they were ahead of their opponent’s score at the end of the 9th over. No questions then about the Man of the Match in this game!
From 97/1 in the 8th over, Freedom crashed to 125/9 in the 11th over and there was no coming back from that debacle. Either way, this record-breaking game turned out to be just what was needed for cricket in the USA, that too in the opening game of the season, which was played at the Oakland Coliseum in California.
