We’re talking about the Pakistan opener who hasn’t played ODI or Test cricket yet for his country. He was taken on this tour and made his international debut in the 1st T20I where he scored 0(2) only to follow it up with 0(3) in the 2nd T20I, starting his international career with two consecutive ducks as Pakistan batted first in both games of this 5-match T20I series.

The batter in question is 22-year old Hasan Nawaz and the right handed batter will want to forget his first two scores for Pakistan very soon. In both games, he was sent to open with Mohammad Haris and on both occasions, he was dismissed by new-ball bowler, Jacob Duffy. So far, he has 0 runs in 2 games, with a batting average and strike rate of 0 respectively too.

In most cases, you’d expect someone with a good domestic record to be picked for the national side but when you look at Nawaz’s numbers so far, they haven’t been the best yet. In First Class cricket, he has 1 century in 11 games while in the T20 format, he’s managed only 2 fifties in 22 games so far, at an average of 22.36.

In the Pakistan Super League (PSL), he’s played 3 games for Islamabad United where he’s scored only 28 runs and these numbers usually don’t warrant you a side in the international setup. Now with these two consecutive ducks, Nawaz will be eager to get off the mark if he’s given a third chance for the 3rd T20 at Eden Park, Auckland on 21st March.
There are other players on the bench who may be given a go ahead of him, which could also mean his international career taking a break before it even kicked off. To be fair, conditions are very difficult in New Zealand, especially if you’re on your first tour there. However, he ran down the pitch and played an ugly shot to get dismissed in the 2nd T20I.

Hassan Nawaz has played 21 T20s prior to his debut, he’s scored 492 runs at 23.
Additionally he’s played just 3 PSL, scored 28 runs at 9.
