It was a welcome return to international cricket for Zimbabwe Women recently as they’ve been out of action for a super long time. In fact, their last T20 international was in Nov 2019 and last ODI was much before that. However, they recently got the go-ahead to host Pakistan Women for a home series of 3 ODIs and 3 T20Is.
They say happiness is often short-lived and that’s exactly what happened with Zimbabwe Women as just one game into the series, they’ve had to call it off. This came after Pakistan’s airline carrier, Emirates Airlines, announced its suspension of flight operations on the Harare-Dubai route between 13-28 February 2021.
All these two teams got was one ODI game which was dominated by the visiting side. Pakistan Women were put in to bat and they scored 255/6 in their 50 overs where their captain Javeria Khan top scored with 81(116) and there was another crucial contribution down the order from Aliya Riaz who scored 74(87).

In the reply, Zimbabwe Women only managed 77 runs and Pak Women secured a massive victory which would’ve been a big confidence booster for the side at the start of the tour. However, Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) recently decided to call off the remainder of the series mutually because of these flight restrictions.
While the players were playing in a bio-secure bubble environment, no one would’ve seen this coming. “It is unfortunate that the Pakistan Women’s team have had to cut short their stay in Zimbabwe as a precautionary move after some unforeseen air travel complications arose, but their concern is understandable,” said Givemore Makoni, ZC Managing Director.
