This morning would’ve been a very special one for Indian athletes and sports fans. With the ongoing Olympics 2021 taking place in Tokyo, Indians have been doing decently well and today, a few people very particularly in the spotlight. One of course was the Indian men’s hockey team who ended up beating Germany 5-4 in the third-place game and won India a bronze medal.
A couple of hours later, it was time for wrestler Ravi Dahiya to hit the mats as he aimed to get India it’s first gold medal of Olympics 2021. After the hockey win over Germany, India’s tally of 4 medals included 1 silver and 3 bronze medals and this was India’s biggest hope for gold int he overall event so far.
However, he wasn’t able to cross the final line as he stepped on the mats one last time at the Tokyo 2021 Olympics. Playing the Men’s freestyle 57kg, Dahiya was being backed from all corners of the country but unfortunately, he wasn’t able to go for gold as he ended up losing in the final to Russian’ Olympic Committee’s Zaur Uguev!

Uguev had a stellar run in this tournament as well and when it mattered most, he made it count. But we’d still say full marks to our Indian fighter who bagged silver medal in this category which became India’s second silver in tournament and fifth medal overall. The final scorecard read 7-4 in favour of Uguev.
While Dahiya couldn’t win on this big day, he’s still made the entire nation proud and we wish him a hearty congratulations, while also hoping for many more successes to come. After his big game, Deepak Punia is also scheduled to play the game for bronze medal in the men’s freestyle 86kg category.
