The Los Angeles Lakers had a chance to renew their rivalry against the Los Angeles Clippers, as they faced off tonight at the Staples Center in LA. This was the second time these two sides met this season, after their fixture on NBA 2017/18 opening night, that the Clippers won rather easily, 108-92.
Former Lakers player Wesley Johnson said the Clippers should blow the Lakers out with this game, and they did exactly that, beating the Lakers for the second time this season, this time a closer contest: 120-115. However, it was a good result for the Clippers, given their injury marred roster.
With this loss, the Lakers are now 8-12 on their season and will fall further down on the Western Conference points table, with this being their second successive loss of the season. On the other hand, the Clippers season is now 8-11, having registered their 3rd successive win in the 2017/18 NBA season.
Here’s a quarter-by-quarter breakdown of the scores:
Team/Score | Q1 | Q2 | Q3 | Q4 | Total |
Clippers | 34 | 26 | 27 | 33 | 120 |
Lakers | 32 | 30 | 27 | 26 | 115 |
It was a fantastic performance by the Clippers as they were without quite a few players:
- Patrick Beverley – Out of the season with a knee injury
- Danilo Gallinari – Glute issue; to be sidelined for atleast another week
- Milos Teodosic – Foot injury

However, Lou Williams was the star of the night, scoring 42 points in this back and forth contest. Williams came alive mostly in the second half, having scored 29 points in this period, and 15 points in a quarter. His performance was crucial in winning the battle for LA for the Clippers!
The Lakers were in a much better position to win today than they were in on opening night last month, but they failed to drive home the advantage. They, of course, will have a chance to get revenge, as the two teams go head-to-head again on 30th December.
