With the backing and support of the Madhya Pradesh Cricket Association (MPCA), we saw the rise of a new league in 2024, headed by the Gwalior Division Cricket Association (GDCA). We’re talking about the Madhya Pradesh League, which is the only official T20 franchise league in the state of Madhya Pradesh.
Don’t confuse yourself with the Madhya Pradesh Premier League which is a football tournament with an older history. The MPL T20 league began in 2024 with only 5 teams participating. However, the success of the league meant they returned with MPL 2025, with two new teams and a longer list of fixtures as well, starting as soon as the IPL season came to an end.
Madhya Pradesh T20 League all winners
The first tournament in 2024 saw a total of only 10 round robin games because of fewer teams and less interest in the league. This was followed by an Eliminator and a Final. The first Madhya Pradesh League winner turned out to be Jabalpur Lions who saved their best for last, smashing 249/4 in the final and beating Bhopal Leopards by a healthy margin of 33 runs.

So far, they’re the only winning team in this tournament but unfortunately, they’ll not be able to defend their title. In MPL T20 2025, they didn’t even qualify for the playoffs, finishing fifth on the points table. The team who we can say has been the most consistent would be Bhopal Leopards, as they’re the only team to make two finals in the Madhya Pradesh League so far. They’re 2025 journey was much simpler as they won only 1 of their 6 round robin games, with 4 of them being washed out due to rain. They play Chambal Ghariyals in the MPL 2025 final.

In the 2024 final, there was a scintillating innings from Abhishek Pathak who not only scored an unbeaten 142* with the bat, but he returned to take two wickets with the ball as well. He was the Man of the Match in the MPL 2024 final and it’s going to be very difficult for anyone to beat that all-round performance in finals of future editions of the competition.
While they had the Eliminator and Final in 2024, they kept it the standard league + knockout format in the 2025 season, with the top four teams on the points table qualifying for the semi finals, and then the winners moving to the final. As the league get streamlined in years to come, we think they might adopt the similar playoffs format followed by the IPL and other big leagues.
