Jyd Goolie Smashes 97(31)* in Trinidad T10 Blast

We spoke about the 2022 Trinidad T10 Blast which kicked off yesterday, 26 Feb 2022, and we spoke about how much fun it would be to watch some West Indian big hitting in the shortest format of the game. And right enough, we saw the most blistering of knocks from one of the batsmen on just the opening day of the league, giving us an entertaining start to the league.

Blue Devils were up against Leatherback Giants in Match 1 of the 2022 Trinidad T10 Blast and the Giants set 120 as the target for the Blues. Starting the chase at 12 runs per over as the required rate is never easy, and losing three early wickets only makes it tougher. But a certain man called Jyd Goolie was clear with his intentions right from the start, playing shots all across the ground in Tarouba.

His simmering innings saw many bowlers being destroyed, including Namir Suepaul who picked two wickets for only 5 runs n his first over but was torn apart in his second. He was hit for five sixes in his second over with the over reading 6, 0, 6, 6, 6, 6 and he ended with figures of 2/35. The over changed the game in the favour of the Devils.

Eventually, the fourth wicket partnership for the Blues couldn’t be broken and they got a 7-wicket victory at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy on Saturday. In fact, they got there with 7 balls to spare which means Goolie could’ve got a big score for himself as well as for the team if batting first. He ended with a score of 97(31)*.

He even finished it off with a six and his knock overall consisted of six fours and as many as eleven sixes. It’s not too often you get to see such high scores by batsmen in T10 games but Goolie nearly pulled off a T10 century, and we feel bad he wasn’t able to get there. Later in the day, other stars like Kieron Pollard and Sunil Narine were also in action in the Trinidad T10 Blast 2022.

Who is Jyd Goolie?

The 24-year old left-handed Trinidadian cricketer made his first class debut in the 2016-17 season and has since then, played 5 FC games for T&T Red Steel. He got his personal best score of 128 just before Covid-19 hit and tournaments were rescheduled and now, he’ll be a hot pick when the 2022 Caribbean Premier League is being planned!

He’s in fact a bit unlucky that this knock came a couple of weeks after the IPL 2022 Auction took place. But the batsman is still young and we may see quite a lot more of him in time to come. In fact, we’re just done with one day of the 2022 Trinidad T10 Blast, so watch the tournament if you want to see some more of him over the next couple of weeks.
