Which Player Received Highest Return on Base Price in IPL Auction 2025?

The IPL 2025 auction was an extremely hyped event because of multiple reasons. For one, it was a mega auction where hundreds of players were to go under the hammer. Another reason was the conflicting views of IPL team owners with regards to the retention rules, and the increase in every team’s purse amount was another major factor to keep in mind.

Increased purse means more big buys and of course, bigger pay-cheques than we’ve ever seen before. Rishabh Pant was the story of the IPL 2025 mega auction, as he bagged an IPL-record contract of 27 Crore, while his Indian teammate Shreyas Iyer was close behind him with a price tag of 26.75 Crore. However, these were players we expected to go big at the auction, with the highest base price.

Which Player Received Highest Return on Base Price in IPL Auction 2025?

Who got the biggest hike on base price at IPL 2025 auction?

Here, we’re focussing on the highest overall gains considering the base price, as some of the players with a 30 Lakh base price were also sold in Crores to IPL franchises. As for Pant and Iyer, they both had a 2 Crore base price, which means they ended up with a price hike of 13.5x and 13.37x respectively. Quite impressive, isn’t it?!

However, they weren’t among the top 3 players with the highest multiplier returns at this IPL 2025 mega auction being held in Jeddah. Abdul Samad with a 30 Lakh base price had higher returns than both of them as he was sold for 4.2 Crore which is a 14x hike. Just like him was Nehal Wadhera who also had the same base price and was sold for the same price tag too.

Above them both was Naman Dhir who went to Mumbai Indians. His original base price of 30 Lakh was converted to 5.25 Crore which is a 17.5x hike. But the player who ended up getting the best return on his base price is a bowling all-rounder who represents Jammu and Kashmir in the domestic circuit, and has also played for KKR, DC, and MI in past IPL seasons.

We’re referring to 24-year old Rasikh Salam who had a base price of 30 Lakh but was sold for a whopping 6 Crore to none other than Royal Challengers Bangalore. RCB has struggled with good Indian bowling options and they believe Salam can fix that for them, which is why they decided to give him a record 20x hike on his original asking price.

RCB has been known for spending the big bucks at the IPL auction, but mostly on international players. While they did spend 11.5 Crore on Phil Salt, it was good to see a similar price tag on Indian players Rajat Patidar and Jitesh Sharma, while Krunal Pandya and Rasikh Salam got similar contract prices as well.

Salam currently has 9 wickets in 11 games in his IPL career and more recently, he was part of India’s campaign at the Emerging Teams Asia Cup 2024 in Oman, so it’ll be interesting to see what he can bring to the RCB squad.
