Chennai Super Kings – A team that will go down in Indian Premier League history as one of the most popular and successful franchises. With five (5) titles to their name until IPL 2025, they’re the joint most successful team in IPL history, along with Mumbai Indians. Over the years, Suresh Raina, Matthew Hayden, Murali Vijay, Shane Watson, and many other legends have represented the team in yellow.
All Chennai Super Kings players names
We’ve put up a ridiculously long list of each and every one of the 151 players to have represented Chennai Super Kings from IPL 2008 till IPL 2025, (last updated on 3rd May 2025). The winners of IPL 2010, IPL 2011, IPL 2018, IPL 2021, and IPL 2023 have had some stalwarts in their squads over time, some of whom became icons at the club, while others only managed to get a few games here and there.

Complete CSK players list all-time
The original CSK squad of IPL 2008 had 25 players in it, with Sudeep Tyagi being withdrawn from the squad due to a back injury. The side was captained by none other than wicket-keeper batsman MS Dhoni who continues to do so even in IPL 2025. They had a good balance of overseas players, while there were three 18-year old kids who were also a part of the CSK IPL 2008 squad.
The Aussie duo of Matthew Hayden and Michael Hussey lit up the IPL right from the start as CSK made 240 runs against Punjab in their first IPL game in history, where Hussey scored an unbeaten 116 in 54 deliveries. South Africa’s Albie Morkel and New Zealand’s Jacob Oram provided the all-round support while Sri Lankan spin wizard Muthiah Muralidaran picked up 1/33 on his IPL debut. Many cricket fans and experts will talk about how CSK has always backed their players, and they are the team with the least amount of team combination changes through any particular season. They showed the same as each IPL auction, making minimum changes whenever there’s been a squad shuffle. And that’s why they have had among the least players representing the team over the 18 years of IPL, as compared to other IPL franchises.

This was also visible at every auction including the IPL 2012 auction, where they had only one new name in all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, picked up from the Rajasthan Royals. RCB had 230+ players at the same time that CSK had only 151, with minimal changes each year. The CSK captains list is also the smallest from all IPL teams, with only 4 players to have led CSK till date – MS Dhoni, Suresh Raina, Ravindra Jadeja, and Ruturaj Gaikwad.
IPL 2009 – CSK new players list
| Sr. | Name | Career span | Matches | Runs | Wickets |
| 26 | George Bailey | 2009-2010 | 4 | 63 | – |

| 30 | Sudeep Tyagi | 2009-2010 | 14 | 3 | 6 |
From this complete list of CSK players from start till date, none other than captain MS Dhoni has played the most number of career matches for CSK, with as many as 268 games under his belt. The only other player to have 200+ matches for CSK is Suresh Raina (200 games), while Ravindra Jadeja is close behind (196 games). Among the overseas players, Dwayne Bravo has represented CSK the most number of times – 130 games.
Many were unfortunate to have been picked for CSK but never get a game, while others weren’t able to achieve their full potential with the franchise. For example, English all-rounder Andrew Flintoff was picked in the IPL 2009 auction for a whopping fee of ₹7.6 Crore only to withdraw due to injury, having played only 3 games for them where he scored 62 runs and took 2 wickets.

| 43 | Suraj Randiv | 2011 | 8 | 2 | 6 |

Suresh Raina may very well end as the highest run scorer of all-time for CSK, with 5,529 runs under his belt, while Dhoni is close behind with 5,200+ runs. Among the overseas players, Faf du Plessis has scored the most runs for the yellow army, with 2,932 runs un 100 games for CSK. A total of 86 players have scored at least 1 run for CSK over the years in the competition.
Some of these players even represented CSK during the Champions League T20, between 2010 to 2014 till it was scrapped. CSK won two titles in the CLT20 as well, under MS Dhoni. A special mention goes out to Kiwi batter Stephen Fleming who played the inaugural edition in IPL 2008, and then went on to join the coaching staff (Head Coach), where he has remained loyally till date.

Another loyal servant of CSK over time has been Michael Hussey who played 64 games between 2008-2015 and is now the Batting Coach of the franchise. With 31 First Class centuries to his name, the person who would’ve felt most unfortunate would be Abhinav Mukund who was with CSK for 3 seasons between 2008-2012, but only got 2 games, where he batted once and bagged a golden duck.
IPL 2014 – CSK new players list
| Sr. | Name | Career span | Matches | Runs | Wickets |

| 67 | Ishwar Pandey | 2014-2015 | 25 | – | 17 |
Someone who would’ve found himself most unlucky would be Baba Aparajith who was with Dhoni for 5 seasons (3 for CSK and 2 for Pune), and yet never got a single game for CSK or even in the IPL as a whole. As you can see above, those who joined CSK in IPL 2014 had very short careers, either playing the sole season, or a max of two, as CSK then took a break from the IPL.

The break came in the form of a 2-year suspension from the Indian Premier League, because of suspicion of involvement in sports betting by the owners. That means there were no new players added to the CSK set-up for IPL 2016 and IPL 2017. Come IPL 2018, there was a complete revamp of the squad, the biggest since their debut in the inaugural season in 2008.

Lot of conversation about their team balance after a poor show in the IPL 2025 season, which saw them at the bottom of the points table through most of the season. We’re sure to see a complete revamp of the CSK squad at the IPL 2026 auction, where it’s possible that many loyal servants like R Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, and Dhoni, may finally move on from this franchise.

One of the biggest positives from the IPL 2025 season was Afghanistan’s Noor Ahmad, who was on top of the Purple Cap wickets list for most of IPL 2025. On the other hand, signing ‘Baby AB’ Dewald Brevis was another major positive, scoring 42(25)* on his IPL debut and providing the right impetus in their otherwise failing batting line-up.
