This is definitely not the way we’d expect one of the best Formula 1 drivers bow out of his racing career. We’re talking about the 42-year old Kimi Räikkönen from Finland who is best known for winning the 2007 Formula One World Championship driving for Scuderia Ferrari. His last team however, was Alfa Romeo Racing.
While there’s great drama brewing between Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen who went tied into the 22nd and final race of the 2021 Formula 1 Championship, Räikkönen announced a while back that this will be his final F1 season, which means the season-ending 2021 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix would be his final race. And unfortunately, he didn’t get the farewell he deserved today.

Ahead of his final race, he was felicitated by his previous team Ferarri, for whom he had 151 starts which is their second most in history, including 10 titles, 7 pole positions, 52 podium finishes, and of course 1 world championship. And in his final race, the legendary F1 driver had to crash out because of a braking issue in his car which saw him skid off and hit one of the boards off the track.
He tried to get back and be in the race again but it didn’t work. He entered the pit and when he switched off his car, millions of fans across the world had their hearts broken as he didn’t get the farewell he deserved. Popularly known as ‘The Iceman’, there were immediate tributes pouring in on social media as fans knew they wouldn’t get to see him drive in an F1 race ever again.

Along with him on the same lap, British driver George Russell also crashed out and the battle continued between Hamilton and Verstappen at the top. A few laps later, Kimi’s teammate Antonio Giovinazzi also crashed out of the race. For similar Formula 1 updates from around the world, stay tuned to ReadScoops.com…
