The 2017-18 UEFA Champions League group stage is done and dusted, and we have the last 16 top clubs from around the world all set to participate in the knockout stages. The top two teams from each of the 8 groups have qualified and progressed to the 2017-18 UCL Round of 16!
It’s been a tough season and the teams have a little bit of a rest until the knockout round, which doesn’t begin until mid February 2018. In the meantime, they can put in all efforts to take their clubs higher in their respective country’s football leagues.
In the knockout stages, the teams will get two chances – one at home, and one away (1st leg and 2nd leg). The winner will be decided on the goal aggregate, and if there’s a tie, then the number of away goals is taken into consideration. The final draw for the Champions League Round of 16 is ready. Have a look:
- Juventus v Tottenham: 13 February & 7 March
- Basel v Manchester City: 13 February & 7 March
- Porto v Liverpool: 14 February & 6 March
- Real Madrid v PSG: 14 February & 6 March
- Chelsea v Barcelona: 20 February & 14 March
- Bayern Munich v Beşiktaş: 20 February & 14 March
- Sevilla v Manchester United: 21 February & 13 March
- Shakhtar Donetsk v Roma: 21 February & 13 March
Read Scoops’ Predictions:
Teams to go through from their respective fixtures will be:
- Tottenham
- Manchester City (given their form, they could win the trophy as well)
- Liverpool
- Real Madrid
- Barcelona
- Bayern Munich
- Manchester United
- Roma
The contest that everyone will be looking forward to will be the Real Madrid vs PSG one, with PSG being boosted by the signing of Neymar this season. Although Real have a rich history in the UCL and have won the title many times in the past, PSG seem to be in scintillating form, and they are the tournament leaders with respect to goals scored (25, as compared to Madrid’s 17).
However, Madrid have a certain Cristiano Ronaldo, and after winning his fifth career Ballon d’Or recently, I don’t think he has plans of exiting the Champions League so early. He has 9 goals in the competition so far (tournament leader), while PSG’s Cavani and Neymar have 6 each. I’m expecting this to be a cracker of a contest, or contests in this case.
