Saudi Arabia beat Argentina and Japan beat Germany in the 2022 FIFA World Cup, and that’s not the end of the upsets in this major world tournament. Today, Morocco went on to beat Belgium in what could be considered as one of the biggest shock upsets of the tournament, scoring twice and recording a 2-0 victory against the #2 team in the world.
When the game kicked off, Belgium maintained a whole lot of possession and that continued into the half-time break as well, but they were not convincing enough. Morocco scored once in the first half and the goal was disallowed by VAR as the two teams went into the break 0-0. However, their luck went on to improve in the second half, as they completed a historic victory against Belgium.
Twitter reacts to Morocco beating Belgium
They scored once in the 73rd minute thanks to Abdelhamid Sabiri and just to let the world know that it was not a fluke and that it was a well-deserved win, they went on to score again in injury time, recording a 2-0 win thanks to a brilliant run and assist by Hakim Ziyech, with Zakaria Aboukhlal completing the finish and finding the net.

Ziyech didn’t find the net even once in the game but he was the thorn in the Belgian side right through the game and it’s easy to say he was the player of the game here tonight. 30-year old Thibaut Courtois was the Golden Glove winner in the last World Cup in 2018 and he’s had a real poor show in this one, definitely far from his best tonight against Morocco.

And what makes this victory even more special is that Morocco doesn’t even have a whole lot of experience when it comes to World Cups. This was only their first victory in the FIFA World Cup since 1998, and only their third win in their World Cup history as well. The celebrations will go on till late tonight for sure, as they now go to the top of their group as well!

Viewers and experts were talking about this being the most expensive FIFA World Cup of all time so far, but it’s also the most entertaining on the pitch as well, with upsets galore. It’s not everyday that the #22 team in the world goes on to beat #2, and the fans in the stadium erupted when Zakaria found the net towards the end of the second half.

It’s a good build up to the next couple of games scheduled for today. Croatia takes on Canada in the third game of the evening and many people believe there’s a chance for another upset there. In the final game of the night, it’s Spain vs Germany and any football lover would not want to miss out on this one either!
