When things re good, they’re really good but when things go sour, it gets band equally quickly. That’s the situation with English Premier League franchise club, Chelsea FC right now. Having a Russian owner hasn’t helped them in recent weeks as their sale has been put on hold and assets frozen, while their sponsors are also dropping out at a rapid pace.
In the last week and more, we’ve already see a long list of important sponsors drop out of their respective partnerships with Chelsea. Now, we’re hearing about another partner in leading sports betting website Parimatch dropping out as a Chelsea sponsor. They’ve gone on to join Three UK, Hyundai, and Zapp in the list of Chelsea sponsors to suspend their partnerships with the football club.
Parimatch suspends Chelsea sponsorship
Sports betting and gambling is one of the biggest businesses in the world right now and you will see many Premier League teams sponsored by such betting brands like Bet365, 1xBet, MarathonBet, Parimatch, and many others. Several teams in the top four divisions are sponsored by betting companies and Chelsea too signed a 3-year deal only last August with Parimatch.
Barely 8 months into their partnership, Parimatch.com has felt the heat due to the rising violence in the Russia vs Ukraine war, and they decided to pull the plug on the Chelsea deal. “After considering the situation, we have decided to pause all joint marketing and brand campaigns with the Club featuring the Parimatch logo and brand,” was the official statement from the online bookmaker.
The Chelsea football club is owned by Roman Abramovich, the Russian oligarch who is said to have close friendly ties with Russian President, Vladimir Putin. While not much can be done to stop Russia, there’s a lot of world pressure on brands who are deciding to support Russia in any way possible, especially through their sports and sportsmen.
While it’s unfortunate for the players and those who have absolutely no involvement in disturbing world peace, Chelsea FC is facing tough times right now. We were sure of the deal with Parimatch being limited after we couldn’t find the official logo of Parimatch on the Chelsea website anymore, where all their official partners are usually listed.
For those who aren’t aware about Parimatch, they’re a brand that has all the latest live and pre-match betting markets for football, basketball, tennis, cricket, hockey, and hundreds of other real and virtual sports. They also have a wide range of online casino options and if you’re interested in knowing more about the brand, signup here.
