We knew it was going to be a tough outing for Manchester United because their last fixture was postponed because of protests in the 2020/21 English Premier League. It meant multiple games in a short span of time including a Europa League semi final game. Today, they played Leicester and they made 10 changes from the match they played a couple of days ago.
It was like a second string side and it was going to be difficult to go one and win this one. Right enough, they ended up going behind within the first ten minutes itself, as 19-year old Luke Thomas scored his maiden Premier League goal. However, United have often come back from losing positions this year and they showed promise to do so again today.
Less than 6 minutes later, it was another teenager who found the net as United’s Mason Greenwood equalised with a lovely bit of skill before passing the Leicester goal-keeper and getting the scoreboard to 1-1. From there, it was a first half dominated by United but they weren’t able to create many chances in the final half of the pitch.

That vigour was missing in the second half as Leicester went ahead early in the second half as well. Çağlar Söyüncü found the net with a well-timed header and from there, Leicester dominated proceedings. With Manchester City sitting on 1st place on the points table, United had to get just one point from this game in order to postpone the win for City.
However, a 1-2 loss today for United meant that they wouldn’t be able to improve from 2nd position after 36 match weeks and it meant the other side of Manchester would’ve erupted. Manchester City is the 2020/21 EPL champion and they’ve done so for the 5th time in the last decade and 3rd time in the last 4 years as well. Deserving champions!
