A whole year this tournament was postponed because of the Covid-19 pandemic but when the UEFA Euro 2020 finally kicked off, it was nothing but entertainment. And the best two teams of the tournament made it to the Euro 2020 finals and the Italy vs England game eventually proved to be the best game of the tournament.
It was left-back Luke Shaw who scored in just the 2nd minute of the game and what a time it was to score your first international goal for England. He doesn’t score often but he scored when needed and despite a few efforts from Italy, they couldn’t level the scores, going into half-time with the scoreline still 1-0 and the English fans going wild at Wembley Stadium.
However in the 67th minute of the game, 34-year old center-back Leonardo Bonucci decided to put one back into the net and take the scoreline to 1-1 which went on to be the 90-minute score as well. Nothing could separate them in normal time and even 30 minutes of extra time didn’t do the trick which means the game had to go to penalties.

Italy missed their second kick which meant an early 2-1 lead for England and it seemed like England was going to take home their first ever European Championships title but it wasn’t to be. Marcus Rashford hit the post allowing the penalties scoreline to go back level while their next shot taken by Jadon Sancho was saved. Italy scored and won 3-2 in penalties!
Ecstatic scenes followed as Italian supporters and players went berserk, while fans across the world watching would also be rejoicing as Italy won only their second Euro Cup, the first one coming all the way back in 1968. The winners pocketed €34 million (INR 300 Crore) in prize money while the runner-up England took home €10 million (INR 88 Crore).
