English Premier League Game Week 5 Preview: Battle for London

UEFA Champions League nights are back, and with all the five Premier League teams scoring a total of 18 goals in their opening fixtures, it truly kicked off with a bang.

But it’s another weekend and we are back to the PL. Here’s a quick preview of Game Week 5:

AFC Bournemouth kick off the action against Brighton at the Vitality Stadium. Bournemouth are on a run of 4 losses on the trot and that should worry their manager Eddie Howe but having guided them to a 9th place finish last season he knows the job well enough. Meanwhile, the PL new boys Brighton lost their opening 2 matches but have picked up 4 points from their last 2 games, including a win against West Brom. Bournemouth are expected to win and kick-start their season.

Crystal Palace welcome Southampton at the Selhurst Park. Palace are in a mess right now: lost their opening 4 matches, sacked their manager Frank de Boer after just 77 days in charge; Roy Hodgson has been appointed as his replacement. Southampton would look to exploit Palace’s low morale & confidence. Southampton to win this encounter.

Huddersfield play Leicester at the John Smith’s stadium. Of the three promoted teams, Huddersfield have impressed the most by staying unbeaten in their opening 3 matches along with 3 clean sheets which won their boss David Wagner the “Manager of the Month”. Although, a defeat away to West Ham have brought them firmly back on the ground. Meanwhile, Leicester have lost 3 and won 1 of their matches. The 2015 PL champions should expect a tough fight from the home team.

Liverpool play Burnley at Anfield and they would want to put their demons to rest following the shocking 5-0 defeat to Manchester City. Liverpool are expected to cruise through and Burnley will have to suffer the onslaught though they did win at Stamford Bridge against Chelsea in their opening match. Klopp will expect a solid performance from Liverpool and Burnley are the ideal opposition to get their campaign back on track.

Newcastle vs Stoke at St. James Park should be an exciting match considering the similar results of both the teams. Two mid-table teams battling it out with two good managers in the dugout who love the occasional fights. A draw seems more likely.

Watford vs Manchester City at the Vicarage Road. Well it’s a top-4 club match (4th vs 2nd) even though it’s just 4 matches into the season and nobody expects Watford to finish the season in that position!

Questions were raised about the amount of money Pep spent in the summer transfer market but with the start that they’ve had, it seems like Pep has silenced his critics. With the strike partnership of Gabriel Jesus & Sergio Aguero blossoming, a menacing De Bruyne, a calm and composed David Silva and the ever impressive young Sane, City look like a real threat every time they go forward. City to win the game and be the early pace setters.

West Brom vs West Ham will take place at The Hawthorns. Another battle of the mid-table teams although West Ham are in dire need of points. West Brom have made a good start and will be looking to build on that while West Ham have finally got their first win in the league after a run of 3 defeats. Although The Hammers have the better players, West Brom will make life difficult for them and we can expect a tense draw.

Spurs vs Swansea at Wembley – Spurs have the perfect opportunity to break their curse at Wembley and they should win this quite comfortably. Harry Kane is on a roll and with Dele Alli & Erikksen back to their best, Spurs should reach the highs of last season. Swansea have produced some mixed performances this season and they will need something special to get something out of this. Renato Sanchez (their golden boy on loan from Bayern) had a disastrous debut so he will have a point to prove this time.

BATTLE FOR LONDON!

The biggest match of the week is none other than the London derby. Chelsea vs Arsenal at the Stamford Bridge – a great way to start your Super Sunday. Although Arsenal have won their last 2 encounters against Chelsea (both in cup competitions), it’s Chelsea who are the overwhelming favorites for this one.

Arsenal have lost both of their away matches so far and the pressure is ever building on Arsene Wenger. A 3-0 victory against Bournemouth has lowered the pressure but Wenger knows his team and their fans need a performance at Chelsea. Chelsea are on a roll with 3 consecutive wins.

Conte has got his mojo back and Chelsea looks like the team which won the the PL last season. With Hazard back in the team and Morata on a goal-scoring (and assisting) spree, Chelsea should win this comfortably unless we see a special performance from Arsenal. Club record signing Lacazette & co. need to fire on all cylinders for Arsenal to get a result.

Manchester United vs Everton at Old Trafford – the last match of the week. United are the table toppers at the moment but their momentum was halted by a draw at Swansea last time. The match marks the return of former Manchester United captain and legend Wayne Rooney.

It’s going to be emotional scenes at the Old Trafford. After spending 13 seasons at United, Wayne left to join his boyhood club Everton. The Old Trafford faithfuls are bound to give him a great reception. Also facing his old team would be Manchester United’s Romelu Lukaku, who joined from Everton this season.

Lukaku is spearheading the United attack now, and with Paul Pogba out injured he’s expected to fire against his old club. Everton are on a run of two losses and it looks like it will be 3 by the end of this match. Jose Mourinho would expect nothing but a win from his United team. That’s all for this week guys; enjoy the game week. Will get back to you with the results (Subscribe to get our results post). Cheers!
