Last night, rumours of the Neymar move to PSG were finally confirmed but the drama didn’t end there as two other top strikers in Sergio Agüero and Alexis Sánchez moved into the transfer window limelight, with high chances of both of them leaving their respective clubs.
Barcelona vice-president Jordi Mestre had said that Neymar would ‘200%‘ stay but I doubt that’s happening now. Similarly, Arsene Wenger released a statement recently saying Alexis Sánchez will stay at Arsenal and that he is ‘not for sale‘. PSG was the club interested in both these strikers.
Sánchez was PSG’s main target and if by chance the Neymar move doesn’t go through, they will definitely continue to show interest in the Arsenal striker. Even though Arsenal has decided not to sell, this is Sánchez’s last year of his contract with the club and if a good offer comes in, we may see the move happening. Wenger has also mentioned that he is happy to let go of Alexis for free next summer.
However, all of the current talks depend on the Neymar move. Also, there have been talks of a switch between Sánchez and Manchester City’s Sergio Agüero – both have had a fantastic last couple of years at the English Premier League.
Alexis recently showed his desire to play Champions League football and that’s not so possible playing for Arsenal so the chance of a move seems high. Should Arsenal sell the striker, they will have eyes on Real Madrid’s Karim Benzema as a possible replacement.
There were also talks of an Agüero move to Chelsea. he is currently one of the best strikers in the Premier League but he just doesn’t fit with Pep Guardiola. Will they set their differences aside for another season? Or will another big transfer take place before the start of the 2017-18 season?
At the moment, however, Agüero is training with the Manchester City team in Houston ahead of their pre-season derby game against rivals Manchester United. The transfer window has been good for strikers as we’ve already seen the Romelu Lukaku – Wayne Rooney move. Could we see some more?
