The cricket auctions in India have always been something to look forward to. While we’ve seen the men’s IPL getting some amazing success stories over the years, we’re seeing some similar stories coming up in the Women’s Premier League as well. Today, a few more such stories emerged from the WPL Auction 2025 which began live at 3pm IST on 15th Dec 2024.
Ahead of the third season of WPL T20, an uncapped Indian player called G Kamalini emerged as a hero with a 16x contract from her original price tag. However, from the international stars, West Indian all-rounder Deandra Dottin would’ve been the happiest, as she bagged a massive 1.7 Crore contract, going to the Gujarat Giants Women’s team.

West Indies Women were to begin a 3-match T20I series against India in Mumbai today while the WPL 2025 Auction was going on. Visuals came in later of Dottin with her teammate Hayley Matthews and a couple of team management as well, watching as the bids kept rolling in for her, as she was eventually picked by the Gujarat Giants. While Dottin was inmoved initially, the emotion came out after Matthews hugged her and showed a lot of emotion. Everyone from around the room also gathered around to hug and congratulate her, and it was great to see. There’s no emotion around this purchase because Dottin was bought by the Giants in WPL 2023 but there was a lot of controversy around that initially.

Just before WPL Season 1, Dottin posted on social media a statement where she criticised the Giants team for omitting her from the season, citing a ‘medical reason’. However, Dottin claimed that there was no such issue and put out a long note against them, which was deleted soon later. Now, it’s great to see Giants putting their faith in Dottin once more for WPL 2025.

The big hitting all-rounder wasn’t the highest paid player, as Simran Shaikh bagged a record contract of 1.9 Crore. By the time of the first break, Dottin’s 1.7 Crore was the second highest package from the WPL 2025 Auction. It’s been a complete circle for Dottin with this franchise and keeping all the controversy aside, it’s a happy day for the West Indian cricketer.
