It’s the Bangladesh tour of Zimbabwe 2022 and here, there are a total 0f 3 ODIs and 3 T20 internationals scheduled on the tour. Beginning today, 30th July 2022, the T20 series had a fabulous start. It was the 1st T20I today at Harare Sports Club and Zimbabwe was brilliant after winning the toss and electing to bat first.
They saw fifties from Wesley Madhevere and a brilliant cameo from Sikandar Raza as the hosts put up an impressive 205/3 in their 20 overs. The crowds at the stadium were upbeat because they knew they were in with a chance to win against these familiar foes, with Bangladesh having enjoyed a good edge over Zimbabwe for many years now. However, today was going to be very different…
1st T20I – Zimbabwe beat Bangladesh by 17 runs
Zimbabwe’s bowling has let them down on many occasions but today wasn’t going to be one of them. They picked up wickets at regular intervals and even though Bangladesh was missing the experienced likes of Mushfiqur Rahim, Tamim Iqbal, Shakib al Hasan, and others, it was still a very good visiting squad out here.
All the Zimbabwe bowlers chipped in and they ensured there was a wicket falling every few overs, which kept them ahead of the game at all times. With two batsmen in at the end and 32 runs being needed in the last couple of overs, we though it was going down to the wire. However, Richard Ngarava kept his cool and gave away only 4 runs in the penultimate over.

From there, it was just a matter of formalities as 29 is just too much to chase in the final over of a T20 game. Right enough, Tanaka Chivanga finished off well by giving away only 10 runs in the final over, and Zimbabwe winning by 17 runs. The crowds and the team were ecstatic as they took a 1-0 lead in the series and have a rare chance to get a series victory too!
Madhevere is one of the up and coming all-rounders graduating from the U-19 team a couple of years ago. He got 67(46) before getting retired hurt and from there, it was the Sikandar Raza show. Super experienced especially in the death overs of a T20 game, Raza smashed 7 fours and 4 sixes in an innings where he struck at a strike rate of 250.

All of the bowlers chipped in separately as well, with all of Ngarava, Chivanga, and Wellington Masakadza picking up a wicket each. Luke Jongwe was clearly the pick of the bowlers as he ended with 2/34 in his 4 overs. All in all, it was a good effort by the home team and Raza was awarded the man of the match for his great knock today.
